Recommended Books and Authors

Books and authors that I love.

Silva's Gabriel Allon series is about a reluctant spy, who just wants to be an art restorer.

From one of the best spy novels ever written, Eye of the Needle, to the sweeping classic, Pillars of the Earth, Ken Follett has a couple of series, as well as standalone books, on a wide variety of subjects. He is my favorite author.

This is my favorite book of all time. It has been a while since I've read this classic. I can't wait to read it again.

War and Remembrance, The Winds of War, The Hope, and The Glory are some of the best novels ever written.

If you haven't read the Kay Scarpetta series, you should.

As an Army brat, I identify with a lot of Conroy's earlier work. He was a master of setting; in all of his books that take place in South Carolina, you feel transported to the low-country and its way of life.

As a writer, Patterson is an inspiration to me. He has never hesitated to write about controversial issues--abortion, gun control, interracial relationships, PTSD--in a subtle, but entertaining way. I love his earlier work and his protagonists: Christopher Paget, Caroline Masters, and Kerry Kilcannon.

I loved this book, perhaps because I have some of Ove's OCD tendencies.

Another one of my favorite books of all time. I loved Grisham's earlier work. A Time to Kill is up there as well.

The first in a series, The Power of the Dog makes you feel like you're in Mexico and gives a better understanding of the US's involvement (and complicity) in the drug trade. Don Winslow's writing is raw and real.

Towles's novels, A Gentleman in Moscow and Rules of Civility, both will take you back in time. I love his writing in style.

Imperium is the first book in a trilogy about Ancient Rome.

I enjoyed Angels & Demons the best out of all Dan Brown's novels. Maybe, because I read it first.

The Book Thief
By Markus Zusak
Sarah's Key
By Tatiana de Rosnay
Still Alice
By Lisa Genova

Other favorite authors: Jeffrey Archer, F. Scott Fitzgerald, E. M. Forster, John Lescroart, Robert Ludlum, Phillip Margolin, Steve Martini, David Morrell, Edith Wharton,  Stephen White, and Laura Van Wormer

I love reading physical books, but I also have a Kindle Paperwhite. It's great for traveling and reading in bed without turning the light on.

A waterproof Kindle. I have not tried it out yet, but it has to be cool. Beach, here we come!
